Creepy Meanings Behind Poems

 Creepy Meanings of your favorite poems ;

Disclaimer; This blog can probably ruin your childhood, so readers are advised.

So the first poem is ;
  • Three blind mice :
" Three blind mice, three blind mice,
See how they run, see how they run,
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife,
Did you ever see such a thing in your life,
As three blind mice?  "

This poem is quite scary as " the farmer's wife " is actually Queen Mary or simply " Bloody Mary ". The three mice represent three noblemen who were plotting to kill Queen Mary, and instead of chopping off their tails, she burned them alive.

The next poem is :
  • Rock-A-Bye Baby
" Rock-a-bye baby, in the treetop
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall
And down will come baby, cradle and all. "

The lyrics refer to the new heir to the throne, born to King James II of England, and actually, express the hope that the infant prince would die so the reign of King James II could be overthrown.

So the next poem is :
  • Ring around the Rosie :
" Ring around the Rosie,
A pocket full of poses,
Achoo! Achoo!
We all fall down. "

This poem actually tells about the Plague. This poem is not about frolicking around a bush, but about the plague that killed 75-200 million people in the 1300s. The symptoms included a red rash in the shape of a ring on the skin, as well as sneezing. " A pocket full of poses " infers to how people would fill their pockets with sweet-smelling items cause this disease can spread bad smell, and the last line is about death .....

The next poem is :
  • Mary, Mary Quite Contrary :
" Mary Mary quite the contrary,
How does your garden grow?
With silver bells and cockleshells
And pretty maids all in a row. "

You can tell Queen Mary is quite popular, she has many poems related to her. The "garden" is referred to as a graveyard as Queen Mary loved to execute people. "Silver bells and Cockleshell" were the torture instruments.

The next poem is :
  • Londen bridge is Falling Down :
" London Bridge is falling down,
Falling down, falling down,
London Bridge is falling down,
My fair Lady. "

There are multiple theories about this poem, one of them is about a child sacrifice as their bodies needed to be inserted into the bridge to prevent it from falling. The other one is about the Viking Attack in the early 1000s.

Next up is :
  • Humpty Dumpty :
" Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
All the King's horses and all the King's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again. "

So Humpty was not an egg  ( 🙀), but he was a Canon used in the English Civil War that could shatter when lit.  Or it was the type of alcohol that would cause the drinker to have a "great fall"  when drunk.

Bye...Bye...💓💓💓
